Railway provides convenient, comfortable and fast service for people. It has become anabsolutely necessary means of transportation. The importance of rail transportation ishighlighted after the turning up of urban rail transit. Railway signal system is the baseinstallation for railway, and it improves the security and efficiency of railway transportation.Signal system has made modern communication, computer, microelectronics and otheradvanced technology integration, with the rapid development of construction of railwaytransportation in our country. Digitalization, intelligent, integrated automation are the targetof Signal system. At the same time, those new technology make the electromagneticenvironment of signal equipments complex and bring the problem of electromagneticcompatibility. Electromagnetic compatibility is an ability that equipments and systems canwork well in there electromagnetic environment, and will not bring unbearableelectromagnetic disturbance for other equipments and systems. So it is the guarantee for thesecurity and efficiency of railway transportation that the study of the electromagneticcompatibility of signal equipments.This paper introduces the basic theory of electromagnetic compatibility, and the contentof study in the area which is electromagnetic compatibility of signal equipments. The contentof study includes the electromagnetic environment of railway signal system, the designstandard and the test requirements of signal equipments. On the basis of the theoreticalknowledge, this paper analyses the electromagnetic environment of railway signal lightingunit which is the problem caused by possible source of harassment. It analyses and calculatesthe interference caused by electrical equipments, traction power supply system, thunderstreak and the induction of transmission line. At last, the Immunity test is made for R34lighting unit. According to requirements of the standard of electromagnetic compatibility,Weresearch the complexity of EMI(electromagnetic interference) deeply. There seldom havefixed method for designing electromagnetic compatibility because of the complexity. So itneeds to explore and test. With the continuous development and application of electronictechnique, the electromagnetic environment of various industries causes cross interference.Because the design of electromagnetic compatibility accordings to standards, so we need to revise the standards of electromagnetic compatibility uniformly to adapt to theelectromagnetic environment which is more and more complex.
