In recent years, economic level continually improved in China, number of cars hasincreased year by year. A lot of existing expressways have not meet traffic demand and levelof service declined. When certain traffic growth is held in the future, many expressways haveexpanded to bidirectional eight lanes to meet traffic demand. Many construction scales ofnewly built expressways are closing to multi-lanes expressway, eight lanes expressways willbe more and more. Meanwhile, eight lanes expressway maintenance and repair workincreased, reasonable safety facilities setting guarantee vehicles’ running safety in work zone.In China, systematic theory and practical basis have not formed in multi-lanes expresswaywork zone safety facilities setting.Safety facilities setting were studied in eight lanes expressway work zone. Comparedwith four lanes expressway, traffic characteristics and work zone divided method wereanalyzed in eight lanes expressway. Varieties of traffic organization forms were proposedbased on road traffic organization optimization theory. Theory analysis and VISSIMsimulation were companied to find out application of organization schemes. The advantageand disadvantage of organization schemes were compared. Speed-limit sign position wasstudied based on analysis of traffic organization form in eight lanes expressway work zone. When theories of drivers’ occlusion visual traffic flow and braking safety were used, verticaland lateral position setting model and forms of speed-limit sign were proposed. Concretesetting method of other safety facilities such as isolation anti-collision guardrail guidance andconstruction marks was proposed.
