In recent years, with the continuous growth of China’s highway mileage, the earlyconstruction highway enters the pavement maintenance, modification and expansionperiod, more and more work zone will be appear on the road. However, the construction areawill not only reduce the fluid level, but also cause traffic accidents, and at the present, thetraffic sign design, safety control measures as well as work area length in work zone mostly isat semi-theoretical status, lack of systematic study. In2012, under the subsidization of scienceand technology plan project—Study on the evaluation and optimization of work zone trafficorganization under the great volume by Henan Province Transportation Investment Group, forthe shortcoming of the current, based on the measured data, with traffic simulation technologyand other technical means to assess the appropriateness and optimization for several problemson traffic organization, then promotes the level of traffic organization and safety measures inwork zone.First of all, analysis the traffic accident characteristics and causes of work zone from thestatistical data, combined with work zone traffic situation, research the driver characteristics,traffic stream characteristics, work zone road characteristics, environmental characteristicsand other aspects to provide the scientific basis for traffic control and management ofhighway work zone.Secondly, in view the problems of the work zone traffic signal at present which exists asa result of the research lag, take driver’s visibility characteristics as a starting point to buildvehicle model, analysis the intrinsic mechanism of traffic sign on people, vehicles and road,through mathematical logic inferential reasoning research the design issues of traffic signalestablishment position, graphics and text categories logo, then discuss the symbol signstandardization production.Thirdly, in order to reduce the insecurity of vehicle sharp deceleration, this paperdepends on the actual project, uses the VISSIM software to carry on the simulation, and usethe vehicle speed standard deviation and the coefficient of variation, the delay time toevaluate the traffic safety and smooth level respectively, comparative the speed limit policy implementation effect.Then analysis the factors of traffic diversion safety in road network,explore the design of diversion plan.Finally, in order to improve the traffic condition of highway maintenance constructionarea, increase the efficiency of construction, this paper based on the time-varyingcharacteristics of traffic flow, taking into account construction intermittent, work at night andother factors established total cost function model(including uses in constructing and the roaduser expense), proposes optimization mentality and the method which based on the totalexpense. By setting a certain constraint conditions, make it more in line with the actualproduction, then through Matlab programming elected optimal work zone best operation timeand most superior length from many kinds of construction plan.The results of this study contribute to improving traffic conditions, road capacity andreducing traffic accidents, will provide new ideas and new measures for the highway workzone traffic organization and the security of our country, which has strong theoretical valueand practical significance.
