A Preliminary Study On The Conservation Of Campus Heritage In The Old Campus Of Northwest University

"Campus heritage" is a kind of special heritage which appeared as deepeningunderstanding of the cultural heritage,it belongs to the20th century heritage. Thecampus which witnessed the changment of the university,the city and the coutry, iscarrier of university spirit and campus life. So far, including early buildings of WuhanUniversity, a total of58campus was included in the national key cultural relicsprotection units, there are a large number of campus buildings were included in theprovincial cultural relics protection units. This thesis mainly researches on the oldcampus of Northwestern University, hoping to provide guidance and advice to otheruniversity’s campus construction and heritage conservation.The core issue of this thesis is to "understand and protect the old campus ofNorthwestern University", thesis discusses this problem from four aspects. Firstly,discussing the origin, value and identification method of campus heritage; Secondly,reviewing the history and the old campus construction of Northwestern University;Thirdly, determining the modern campus heritage and heritage value of the old campusof Northwestern University; in the help of the identification methods of modern campusheritage; Finally, analysising of status and existing problems of the campus heritage,proposing the campus heritage protection strategy, delimitting protection division.This paper uses research methods of literature to understand protection andresearch status of the campus heritage, the evolution history of Northwestern Universityand the old campus space form;at the same time, through the methods of interview, fieldsurvey to clear the old campus heritage status and problems.This paper mainly obtains three points: first of all, the campus construction processis an important content of university development process; secondly, in the process of campus heritage protection, protection and development has the same importantposition; finally, formulating protection strategy of the Modern Campus heritage of theold campus of Northwestern University.
