Research On The Development Plan And Design Of The Senior Living Community

With the rapidly growing of aging population in our country, various social issuesrelated to aged people become prominent，especially in mega-cities. Compared withdeveloped countries, the research and practice in our country on the living issues of theaged are lagging behind. Recently, most common communities haven’t taken intoaccount physical characteristics and psychological needs of the aged in the aspect ofarchitectural space and environmental quality. The paper makes the senior livingcommunity as main object of the research. The research discusses the system ofdevelopment plan and the design strategy of the senior living community which issuitable for the aged people.First of all, by the literature studying, social investigation and example analysis,the paper try to discover the real living needs of the aged people.The research makes adeep study on the construction concept around the world as well as some projects builtin China. Through the study, we summarize the experience to design the senior livingcommunity. By the work done before, the paper creates the system of development planand design strategy of the senior residential areas preliminarily.At the same time, relying on the practice in Xi’an, we make a deep and specificresearch on the senior living community. During the research, we integrate a variety offactors and other related subjects including gerontology, psychology and behaviorscience. We pay attention to the mental and physical demands of the aged people, anddiscuss appropriate methods and points to make suitable living environment in the community.The practice of the project depends on the architecture itself, and makes thephysical and psychological needs of the aged as the starting point for research.Theresearch offers methods to the aged for their daily life. The paper includes planningdesign, building design and landscape design. The study concerns the naturalenvironment, local culture in the construction of the senior living community. As well,we take the accessibility design and the adaptable design as normal concept in thisproject, which are penetrating into all aspects of the design.Through the combination of theory and practice, the research fixes and improvesdevelopment model and design system of the senior living community in China. Finally,the paper summarizes the process and results of the research, and looks forward todevelopment trend of the senior living community in the future.
