Following the modern electronic technology development and high emissionreduction requirement electronic power steering system will replace hydraulic powersteering system in the coming years especially in passenger vehicle. Although speed ofthe auto is more and more faster, everyone is still focus on the safety requirement onauto. Energy absorb structure has been the necessary component of steering column.Computer aided engineering has taken very important role. CAE existed in thewhole auto design process. After comparing different steering system energy absorbstructure and using ANSYS to simulation we design a new metal capsule which isvery important component of steering column energy absorb. CAE result had beenverified by launching prototype and function validation test.This project is coming from actual requirement of customer. It does not onlyvalidate CAE result and design process it also make the metal capsule apply on severalmass production projects. The design process and experiment gained duringdevelopment would contribute to similar product development in the future.
