| Featured with superior fatigue behavior, damage tolerance and inherent resistance to corrosion,Fiber Metal Laminates (FML), have become an attractive material for aircraft structures. A non-linear,explicit, three-dimensional finite-element code ANSYS/LS-DYNA is used to analyze the numericalmodeling methods, effects of finite element parameters and impact resistance of different plates aswell as characteristics of containment capability of different FML containment rings. The maincontents are as follows:(1)The equations of the interface of different numerical modeling methods were deduced. Bycomparing impact results between several numerical modeling methods and tests, it is found thatthese three modeling methods are feasible; however, numerical modeling approximate to the real testsis recommended if calculation requirement is satisfied.(2)The effect of six important finite element parameters (system damping, finite element meshdensity, hourglass control method, hourglass coefficient. scale factor for the interface stiffness incontact-impact algorithm, interface coefficient of friction, etc) on laminate composite underhigh-speed projectile impact was investigated. The result shows that most of the parameters exceptinterface coefficient of friction and system damping have remarkable effect on the simulated residualvelocity of projectile, absorbed energy and vibration of composite laminate. have no significant effecton the simulated results.(3)The impact resistance of metal, laminate composite and FML plates under high speed impactand the effects of various impact conditions such as initial velocity of projectile, volume fraction ofmetal, mass fraction of metal and the mixed ratio of metal and composite laminate on impactresistance of FML were also investigated. The result shows that impact resistance of FML falls inbetween metal and laminate composite. Besides, rising the mix ratio of laminate composite and metalcan effectively improve impact resistance of FML structure.。(4)The numerical models of three containment rings consisting of different materials wereestablished and containment capability and damage characteristics were obtained. |
