Interchange has been a very important part of freeway and it has been the inevitabletrend of the comfort and safety on interchange ramp with the vigorous development ofinterchange. Because of the ifnite development lever of economic and transportation, most offreeways are toll roads. It undertakes the functions of the control of vehicle access, chargemanagement and realizes traiffc conversion, which the horn type interchange involves veryextensive. However it is rarely in application due to the defects of B type horn interchange,with the bad phenomenon such as resource waste and large project scale etc, especially inadverse nature and traiffc conditions.Based on the deifnition of the horn interchange, type classiifcation, applicability analysisand the comparative analysis of geometry characteristics, vehicle operation features,applicability analysis between A-type and B-type horn interchange, the relationship betweentraiffc and operation characteristics is analyzed, headed by the characteristics of rampalignment technical index,running speed and acceleration of vehicles, ramp traiffc accident ofB-type horn interchange. Then the causes of traiffc safety problems of B-type horninterchange are proposed by unreasonable speed control, deficiency on visual range,inappropriate traiffc markers and other hidden danger.Combined with the objective and signiifcance of safety evaluation of interchange, theprinciples to follow of construction the safety evaluation index system and the influencingfactors to traiffc safety by people, vehicles, ramps,and environment of B-type interchange areanalyzed. Then the safety evaluation index system and implementation steps of B-typeinterchange are built. According to the hidden danger proposed,the safeguard measures areput forward from engineering design,construction management, operation management andother aspects, such as speed control design,visual range design,traffic safety aided facilitiesdesign,the construction and propaganda and education of traiffc law and regulations and soon to improve the safety of B-type horn interchange and provide the technique support on thedesign of B-type horn interchange in the future.
