With the rapid development of city construction, the landscape take a completelynew look, but while many problems exist such as a thin plot and the single form.Actually, there is no need to desert tradition for innovation. To respect the old styledoesn’t mean being fettered. Instead,to keep these traditional visual symbols can makethe city with rich cultural heritage, especially like Beijing Tong Villa, Shanghai NineHall, Shenzhen Vanke Fifth Garden. Therefore, how to keep our own culturalcharacteristics and create the landscape based on the local culture become a topic thatmany architects try to explore.This thesis attempts to reexamine the Chinese traditional visual symbols, andconduct a further investigation towards the symbol of beauty and extensive implicationof form. By analyzing auspicious meanings, folk culture and literati culture in thedetails of design and the urban landscape,the thesis summarize the internal relationsbetween the traditional visual symbol and urban landscape in the long developmentprocess.Meanwhile,combined with postmodernism,structuralism and deconstruction,the thesis intends to explore updates and techniques the use of traditional visualsymbol,that means conversion in the three aspects of visual function, meaning,as well asthe use of reversion prototype, refining, simplification and deconstruction in the urbanlandscape so as to create a unique aesthetic taste and lifestyle of the Chinese people.The thesis starts from the angle of philosophy, aesthetics in the Chinese traditionalvisual symbols, then analyse the close connection between traditional visual symbol andurban landscape, and in the final step the thesis summarizes the two major revelation ofthe traditional visual symbol for the urban landscape.At the same time, from two aspectsof the space and details,the thesis discuss the use of traditional visual symbols in theurban landscape, and summes up the two approaches in the three-dimensional space andthree types of traditional symbols in the two-dimensional plane composition, as well asexplores the specific use of the symbol from the use of symbols, colors, vegetation andmaterials; Finally, by analysis and study of foreign contemporary art of various genresof traditional elements and modern exploration of the landscape, the thesis summed upupdate design technique and expression in the use of the traditional visual symbols fromhow to build and where to create,. Meanwhile, the thesis conducts a detail analysis oflandscape design with the Guangdong Datang gas-fired power plants so as to give adetailed elabration.The thesis takes the traditional visual symbol as a new perspective to conduct amultidimensional interpretation of the urban landscape as well as in the combination offormer research findings from home and abroad so as to explore the internal relationsbetween the traditional visual symbol and urban landscape, which concludes updatepractices and techniques of the traditional visual symbols to achieve a landscapecombined the new elements with Chinese traditon.
