Ancient stage is an important type of Chinese traditional architecture and animportant location for sacrifice, entertainment and culture. It has two outstandingfeatures: firstly, it is the extravagant decoration of the outside look of the building;secondly, they are attached buildings to temples and other religious buildings or ritualbuildings. Based on the two features, their comparative research of the decoration isdestined to have clear regional feature. Therefore, one must classify stages, study themper region, finds out the origins of the decorative differences and restore thepersonalities of regional culture of shared traditional culture as only in this way can weobjectively interpret the transition and heritage of decorative art, apply the decorationtheories in concrete practice and have more profound understanding of the decorativeimplications of ancient stage.Concretely, this paper does field research in Shanxi and Huizhou, where there arethe most and most complete ancient stages. The study is carried out from one region toanother, from one stage to another to compare the decorative patterns, techniques, colors,styles and etc. This paper compares and analyzes one by one so that the decorative art inmaterialized form can be clear and evident. Besides, this paper also combines thegeographic environment with the cultural phenomenon, in order to combine together thereal cases with literature references and finally reveals the distinctive features andprofound cultural connotation of ancient stage decorative art in southern and northern region.It is exactly the diversity of names, patterns, decorative arts, social origins andother aspects of ancient stages have produced such a diversified and vivid picture ofstages. This is also a precious treasure brought by regional difference. Although manyancient stages have already lost their practical functions, they remain as a culturalsymbol and cultural phenomenon, with dual meanings in terms of cultural heritage anddecoration application. Furthermore, due to the reason that the spiritual pursuit ofpeople can be reflected on architecture, this paper reveals a contradictory but distinctiveimage for stages based on that: the sacred temples, utilitarian decoration, elegant styles,bright colors, plain materials, luxurious engraving and etc have strongly impacted ourhabitual way of thinking and created a unique aesthetic experience!...
