China is a country with thick rustic smell. It is, on the one hand, manifested in afact that rural dwellings are varied. On the other hand, it is reflected in an appearancethat rural residents express the local cultural characteristics. Due to increasinglyintensified contradictions between traditional houses and modern lifestyle in recentyears, however, lots of village structure becomes copying the form of urbanarchitecture under the force of the urbanism sport. It is the blind pursuit that does notonly the loss of the traditional building techniques and the improper transplanting ofthe new materials and crafts, but also results in current situations of “thousands houseswith similar face”, which has had a bad effect on country residents’development.Lingquan village is seated in the northeast of Guanzhong areas. As a typicalexample of rural settlements in loess tundra region of Weibei,the the village has agreater value of architectural art than Dangjia village in Hancheng.During themodernization, the traditional dwellings in Lingquan village are heavily damaged,which leads to the decay of the old hamlet. For new residents far away from the centerof the village, its layout is extremely neat, which loses the zigzag and interesting senseof space. At the same time, its style is a duplicate of civic buildings’ modes, which hasnothing to the simple but vigorous region features.The thesis focuses on four aspects: present problems and development trends, theheritage and modern application of tradition construction elements, the local utility ofthe materials and constitutions and the demonstration of home designs. Based on the current background of the rural modernization, the article aims at residential houses ofnew neighborhood unit in Lingquan village. Along the thinking of “situationinvestigation, problem analysis, strategy proposition and design demonstration”, itexplores the way to inherit and develop the regional culture of rural residents, by theexcavations and arrangements of construction experience in Lingquan village andrelevant theories and practice at home and abroad. Firstly, the article chooses ruralsettlements and residents as a breakthrough to dissect the conditions, problems andtendencies of Lingquan village. Secondly, the thesis probes the modern way ofapplication at building materials and construction aspects, with the information oftraditional materials and construction experience. Thirdly, the essay studies approachesto the adaptive application of modern materials and constructions, through thesummary of building technology and the analysis of application examples. Finally, thepaper shows a design plan of the new dwellings in Lingquan village, according to allthe research results. The whole treatise summarizes a suit of design methods adheringto local specialties, which will exert a good influence on the update of ruralarchitecture.
