| The subject of this paper is derived from the work of The history of architectural development in Shanxi jointly prepared by my tutor, Professor Meng Congling, as well as the Construction Bureau of Shanxi Province. The study of major cities in Shanxi including Taiyuan, and Datong, has investigated and explored the historical development of Shanxi early-modern urban construction from the perspective of urban planning history, studied the practice and characteristics of those two cities’ early-modern urban planning, and discussed and concluded the time, content, pattern, type, nature and so on.The paper consists of five parts. The introduction part stresses that the research topic of Shanxi early-modern urban planning history can enhance the research significance of Chinese early-modern urban planning, which sums up and organizes the historical materials of Shanxi early-modern urban planning and construction, and summarizes and analyzes the research status of related topics at home and abroad,and makes an positioning summarize totally Chapter2, introduces the formation of Shanxi early-modern cities and the development of urban planning, and discusses the relationship between many formats and the early-modern urbanization which are Shanxi early-modern economic,the Yan Xishan rule plicy,the urban and rural system and the instrustrial layout,and summarizes the characteristics of Shanxi city pattern changes and modern urban architecture landscape.The main body of Chapter3, describes and analyzes early-modern two cities, including Taiyuan and Datong, the contents and characteristics of those four cities’s early-modern urban planning, as well as the development of early-modern planning management organizations and systems. Generally speaking,the Shanxi early-modern urban planning process is very slow. Taiyuan and Datong city skyline break though the walls of breakthrough,but the others was failed. With the lack of funds for development,and very few government-run enterprises, the private sector of the economy much pressure,which made urban development of regional city very slowly. However.the scope of the church building penetration is quite broad.basically all cities and towns in Shanxi.During the Japanese invasion,many cities are destroyed too large to construction.except Datong.Shanxi Urban History of early-modern is an confrontation period of western and eastern architectural culture,and a depression and reflection period of urban development.This research is conducted to study the development of Shanxi early-modern urban planning, especially introduce the thoughts and technology of western urban planning.The two city’s urban planning are introduced by the deep explanation of the urban context of pattern formation, population,area of industry,external transhport.urban roads and bridge construction of residential areas.public facilities,cultural and educational facilities,commercial facilities special land,Gardening and municipal facilities.Through the introduction of both urban planning,we can speculate the early-modern process of urban planning of other cities in Shanxi,and supply more fulcrum for the systematic analysis in the Shanxi modern historyThe research on the planning practice whose important manifestations including industrialized urban industry, convenient transportation, westernized forms and formalized patterns, provides reference for the researches of urban planning in contemporary Shanxi or even China, as well as the reconstruction of old cities in the new era.Considing the contemporary urban construction, I believe when we do the renovation of the old planning,we should analyze the value of the historical lot.On the one hand,we should eliminate the development of ideas for largescale transformation of the old city,and consider the urban pattern,architectural style,environmental features,historical monuments,and focus on the whole of the old city to change the quality and protection of historical and cultural heritageqOn the other hand,it is necessary to respect the Old Town, analyzeing and trenching the regional characteristics of the city,so that its space mechanism can consistent with the style of the old city,and reflect the charm of urban culture.On the overall development, avoiding large demolition and construction,we need protection containing development, and development containing protection. |
