In recent years, as the increase of our country’s urbanization and development speed, theproblem of urban transportation is more and more prominent. In the face of thesedevelopmental problems, many cities of our country are vigorously promoting thedevelopment of public transportation. Bus rapid transit (BRT) draws the universal attention ofthe world as a kind of high efficiency, large capacity, high environmental protection, low costpublic transit mode, with the great success of Curitiba. At present, strengthen the research ofbus rapid transit system, actively promote the construction of urban public transportation isthe foundation, effective and feasible measures to solve the traffic problems, to guide urbansustainable development.By the restriction of special terrain conditions, the process of city development and theinfluence of urban nature, the traffic problems of linear city mainly show that the urban trafficnetwork system in the need of adapting to the special topography and the trait of passengerflow distribution, long-term existence the separation contradictions of horizontaltransportation and through transportation in the urban development spindle line. In view ofthese special problems with strip topography, this paper focused on the research of terrainfeature, urban land layout and public transportation, which is aimed to fulfill the target ofurban development layout and the public transport system, fundamentally find the solutions tothe linear city traffic congestion.Bus skeleton network is constituted by large capacity mass transit modes (can be thesubway, light rail and the BRT one or several of them), the reasonable construction of busnetwork can guide urban sustainable development. This paper analyses the key factors to BRTsuccess and planning windows of domestic and foreign cities, taking valley type of linearcity Lanzhou as an example to research the method of BRT network planning, establishinga set of accurate to conform to the city layout and development of the passenger flowprediction model support, following the steps of "first channel, then line", through the basicideas of "initial solution set generation-passenger flow test-scheme evaluation-recommendline network plan" for BRT network planning.This paper firstly studied BRT theoretical and practical application successful examples,combining with the land use, urban layout, brought into the planning concept of bus guidingdevelopment, which could coordinate the city traffic planning and urban planning. The secondpart found the most suitable for the development of strip city bus skeleton networkconfiguration through the research of bus skeleton network type and line network scale basedon the analysis of urban morphology. The third part has pointed out bus rapid transitpassenger flow forecast important points, content and principle, considering the planning phase of city scale, space structure and trip characteristics change and urban terrain feature,considering a new factor of "induced increase passenger flow", and established a set ofsuitable for strip city terrain features of "four phases method" passenger flow predictionmodel. The fourth part is the evaluation research of the bus line network planning, from thetechnical level putting forward a set of rapid transit network evaluation method based on setpair analysis theory of rapid transit network evaluation method, by constructing decisionmatrix, the use of level analysis to determine index weight value, and then reference indexweight value calculated by the comprehensive evaluation model of the optimal scheme. Thelast part is an application example, taking Lanzhou BRT planning as an example toapplication the study theory; finally, obtained a certain satisfactory solution.
