The Highway Planning Research On Xichang City

With the implement of national western development strategy, the economy construct inChina’s western region have developed by leaps and bounds. Soaring economy led to thedevelopment of highway construction, at the same time, it also puts forward higherrequirements on highway network planning and construction. As a previous work of highwayconstruction, highway network planning is very significant to ensure the implementation offuture road network system’s function. Xichang City is located in the southwest of SichuanProvince, the junction of Sichuan and Yunnan, where is the center of Panxi region’s political,economic, cultural, and transportation. Thus speeding up the construction of the road networkin Xichang City has significance meaning to the development of Panxi region.To determine the ideas, this paper based on the existed road network planning at homeand abroad and combined with the specific circumstances of Xichang City. Analyzed andevaluated social economic status and road network through collecting basic information andon-site surveys of Xichang, and proposed the existing road traffic problems. Then by usingthe method of "four-step planning" and "OD matrix estimation", This paper establishednetwork model for traffic demand forecasting in TransCAD software to analysis and evaluatecurrent and predicted traffic flow problems. Combined with geo-economic status and forecastresults of Xichang City, and by using comprehensive analysis method, the paper comes to aroad network planning scheme of xichang, environmental assessment and technical evaluationof this scheme.
