Culvert is the structure buried in the earth dam with the shape of circular and square.Culvert under earth-rock dam has been proved with the shronrpoint that little dig capacity simple construction,short time limit for a project and province investment and so on, therefore it is applied abroad by the project of Small and medium-sized hydroproject. According to survey data analysis embankment dam accident at domestic and international, one of the important reasons for earth-rock dam accident is caused by the defect of culvert. In varying degrees, the broken, empty water seepage problem exist in most Culverts.so Analysis study has a very real sense of the culvert.Based on FEM software ABAQUS and Duncun-Zhang E-v model, In the analysis process, to change the fill material, filling height parameters, different cross-section in the form of culverts and its surrounding soil stress-strain analysis and comparison. The major work and conclusions are as follows:(a)By comparing three different algorithms for stress integration in Duncun-Zhang E-v model, dynamic triaxial test simulation in ABAQUS proved that the improved Euler algorithm closest to the theoretical results.(b)In the3D FEM analysis, create six rectangular culvert under embankment dam model, analysis of the stress of the dam, horizontal displacement, vertical displacement. Analysis of stress and deformation of the culvert.(c)In the2D FEM analysis,the establishment of six rectangular culvert buried in the earth dam, hierarchical load of soil to simulate the construction process, analysis the Stress and Settlement of different dam partition area to find out the impact of unfavorable factors, optimal treatment this area.(d)Change the parameters of the the rectangular culvert surrounding soil material, comparative analysis Conclusion:culvert surrounding soil elastic modulus increases differential settlementof dam decreases, but the contact area of the dam and culvert vertex corner there are still cracks development. In the first layer of soil, established six arched straight wall culverts, whose cross-sectional area equal to rectangular culvert.Analysis of displacement and stress culvert and the surrounding soil, found that in many respects superior to the culvert under the same conditions, to realization the optimization purposes.
