With the development of industry, the problem of energy shortage and environmental pollution become more and more serious, energy conservation and emission reduction have become the main theme of today’s social development. Not only new technology is developed in the field of automotive, but also it is paied attention in the field of construction machinery. Forklift is a kind of construction machinery that used more, and hybrid electric forklift (HEF) is equipped with engine and motor. Compared with the traditional forklift, The fuel economy of HEF is improved, and the emissions are reduced. HEF is a hot topic in the construction machinery research. The background of this thesis is the cooperation project which are borne by Automotive Technology and Equipment Engineering Research Center and one company of Anhui jointly, and the research object is the parallel hybrid electric forklift (PHEF). First the characteristics of Series Schedule, Parallel Schedule and Series-Parallel Combined Schedule are analyzed. According to the forklift structure characteristics and needs of practical work, the structure of PHEF is identified. Then the main components of powertrain system (including the engine, motor and battery) are selected and the parameters are matched. Then the forward-facing energy consumption model which include the engine model, motor model, battery model, driving cycle model, driver model, dynamic model and transmission system model are built in Matlab/Simulink platform using empirical modeling approach with the aid of theoretical modeling. The control strategy of HEF is designed, which draw from the hybrid electric vehicle. The simulation results show that the design requirements are met, the control strategy is reasonable and effective. Compared with the traditional forklift, the fuel consumption is reduced, the purpose of energy saving is achieved. Finally the dynamic performance and economic performance of the prototype forklift are tested with the JB/T3300-2010and GB/T19754-2005standards. The test results show that the dynamic performance of prototype forklift meets the target, the economic performance increased by27.6%compared to the traditional forklift. Simulation results and the test results are relatively close, the error is within the allowable range. The validity and feasibility of the modeling method and the model building are verified. The models have a certain degree of accuracy.
