With the rapid development of our country industrialization, the continuous improvement of science and technology innovation, the automotive industry entered a rapid development stage, automotive technology become a multidisciplinary, areas of cross discipline. In automobile technology, the vehicle steering system is to determine the vehicle handling and stability, comfort and safety of the system, from the traditional mechanical, hydraulic steering system developed electric power steering (EPS) system. Electric power steering system with energy saving and environmental protection, operation stability, active safety, with the car development is in a safe, energy saving, environmental protection concept, is the steering system research and development focus.Development of the EPS system to guarantee the stability, reliability and safety, it needs a large number of research and development of experimental test to obtain a large number of technical parameters and performance index, the comprehensive performance of the system will be adjusted to the optimum state. In the automotive EPS test bench for experimental research can solve the manpower, material resources, financial resources waste and system design research and development cycle is too long, so the EPS test platform design and simulation research on EPS system development has important significance.This paper studies the electric power steering system structure, working principle, assist characteristic and control strategy etc. According to the design requirement and realize the function to determine the overall design scheme of test bench. Focus on the test bench of each component selection, hardware circuit and software program are designed, the advantages and disadvantages of analysis and summary of design scheme. In the design of the test bench of reference conditions and test methods of real vehicle test project carries on the simulation test, analysis of test data processing and graphic verification whether independent research and development of the EPS tester and the controller performance meet the design requirements, the work content summary and points out the design deficiencies and shortcomings and put forward new ideas for the future research on test table.
