Human-Centered Design Analysis And Research On The Design Of Aircraft Seat For Children

Nowadays, in days of rapid increasing of civil transportation, people not only require the basic function of vehicles, but also ask for comfort in means of transport much more than before. In recent years public transport facilities basically were designed meeting the demands of disabled, pregnant woman and babies. However there has not been made efforts to integrate facilities for children into public transport. From the present view, there are no individual seats for the preschool children in aircraft. Even if there are some, they are not quite comfortable. Most of them are designed according to adult’s standard. On short routes, for example, the children have no big problems; but they will be easily emotionally instable during a long route. Therefore to think about design of facilities for preschool children is quite necessary and extremely urgent, now.Due to the above situation, the target of my thesis will be children (2to7years old). My aim is to design an aircraft seat for them. Firstly I will investigate not only children’s physiology and psychology, but also human-centered design. Secondly I will do research to study existing children products and facilities. Thirdly, I will summarize design elements such as safety, comfort, environmental protection, fun and educational and interactive. In the end, I will combine the knowledge of ergonomics and design psychology to explain/show the demand of children’s aircraft cabins. This cabins are not only suitable to care the children’s bodies and emotion, but also let children meticulously cared for in all the details.All in all, human-centered design is the core aim of my thesis during the whole design process. Keeping in mind my targets’demands and also considering inner-surroundings of aircraft cabins, I will then design and create an aircraft cabin seat for children. I hope that my work will be helpful for my target, and also can give some helpful advice to other designers in the future.We believe that, the commodities in the future will become more and more human-centered with the further understanding and care of humanity, transformation of the consumers’concepts and further development of science and technology, and some beautiful values such as care, goodness,dignity, equality and human freedom, etc will also be given full represented.
