Parametric design which is closely combined with digital technology is one ofthe major trendencies of future. Parametric design forces architects to change theirdesign method from designing building to designing architecture generative logic. Thetraditional design method with parametric designing tools is called parametric aideddesign. this kind of way is different from parametric design. Establishing aninterconnected system and building a parametric model are the main purposes ofparametric design. Form-finding is the initial step of building a parametric model.Tessellation form-finding plays an important role in parametric design, it through thehistory of architecture, and was widely used in computer technology.Tessellation is an ancient and modern technology. Countless of tessellations havebeen found since the birth of civilization. In terms of dimension, we have two-dimensional tessellation, three-dimensional tessellations and so on. In terms ofsymmetry, there is periodic tessellation and aperiodic tessellation. Besides, On broadsense, some special kind of tilling such as Voronoi Tessellation and DelaunayTriangles are also called tessellation. The study of tessellation involved Geometry andCrystallography. The arrangement of crystals provides plenty of materials to studythree-dimensional tessellations.Tessellation through the history of architecture,whether skin or form. Thedevelopment of Computer technology is more inseparable from tessellation. We cansee tessellation in surface control, surface display and bitmap. Now, tessellationform-finding has widely used in parametric design.After analysis several successful works, the author will research the process oftessellation form-finding parametric design. It involved the position of tessellation inparametric design, choosing tessellation and design cells, Establish connection withdata and scripting.At last, this paper will analysis two examples which are directly related to author.One is about using convex polyhedron form-finding in design Tensegrity structure.The other one is about using a kind of Origami way to design an interactive curtain.
