Traditional residence accumulating local people’s long-standing lived experience, traditional residences keenly reflect the ancestors’ thoughts and practices of siting, planning, layout, building, geomancy, landscape and so on, Which carry abundantinformation of regional features. In this thesis, the Taihu Lake Basin Water Town ischosen as the object of study. Following the principle of" analysis first-then makelaws " and taking the spatial form of the natural environment and typical Water Townmaterial elements as the starting point, the thesis analyzes the structural characteristicsbehind the spatial form of deep space behind the external form of the Water Town. With going deep study, traditional strategies ecological strategies are also with goingdeep study, during the process of creating living environment, combining with themethods of taking a combination of qualitative and quantitative analysis techniquesthrough quantitative simulation of computer software. In turn, the environment andurban regional characteristics are further revealed after the study. Considering thesuccess or failure in today waterfront settlements planning and construction, the paperstrives to provide inspiration for the future development of the waterfront settlements. The thesis is divided into three main parts as following:The introduction part concludes mostly the research questions, defines theresearch background and hackles the relative research progress. The core concepts, research category, research method and framework are also given in this section. The second part is started from Taihu Basin Water Towns space texture andecological environment, as the two parallel directions. Firstly qualitative analysis ofthe Spatial form of the meaning of the law is presented and then the characteristicsand laws in River Delta citiesland towns areas are revealed by the quantitativesimulation analysis of urban spatial form through computer software, which is thefurther exploration of the Study object. In accordance with the conclusions of the second part, some modern cases areverified and analyzed in the final part, and the focus of today’s waterfront settlementsdesign is identified finally. The research achievement provides solutions to theresearch questions, which makes the research have practical significance.
