Abstract/Summary:
As a state-list famous historical and cultural city, Tianjin has a group of historicaland stylistic architectures of comparatively high historic, cultural and economic value,which are irreproducible resources in a city. The Five Avenues, a historical andstylistic building area with the largest floor space, the most architectures in history,the best preserved and the highest worth for touring, plays an irreplaceable role inurban development in the city. To protect those architectures in the Five Avenues andmake efficient use of those resources is of great strategic significance to inherit andcarry forward Tianjin’s historical and cultural heritage, to enhance urban competitiveedge and to promote economic development in Tianjin.When tourism, economic and cultural value emerges from historical and stylisticarchitectures in the Five-Avenue Area, more and more people pay attention to theArea and participate to the protection and utilization activities. However, variousproblems simultaneously exist in those buildings such as poor safety of structure,unreasonable use, absonant forms of district architecture, improper functional layout,crowded transport, overfull unauthorized construction and incomplete public utilities.Furthermore, there are faulty management system and mechanism to be studied andsolved.This paper makes a deep study to historical and stylistic architectures in Tianjinand in the Five-Avenue Area, makes a systematic and entire analysis and discussionon current conditions of the district, single building, management, protection andutilization in the Five Avenues, probes into the principle, technology, policy andincentive mechanism for the protection of historical and stylistic architectures in thearea, draws up Measures for the Administration of the Protection of Historical andStylistic Architectures in the Five-Avenue Area, and puts forward a tentative plan forprotecting and utilizing those buildings. The viewpoint can provide a reference for theprotection and utilization of historical and stylistic architectures in the Five-AvenueArea.
