1.In this report, random copolymer-grafted halloysite, halloysite-graft-poly(n-butyl acrylate-co-methyl methacrylate) copolymers (HNT-g-P(BA-co-MMA)) with only1.4-6.2wt%halloysite prepared by activators regenerated by electron transfer for atom transfer radical polymerization (ARGET ATRP), as novel thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) are investigated. The successful grafting was confirmed by FT-IR,1H NMR and TGA measurements. TGA curves shows that HNT-g-P(BA-co-MMA) has sufficient thermal stability. The changes of glass transition temperature of HNT-g-P(BA-co-MMA) were studied by DSC. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and (AFM) was conducted to investigate the morphologies of original HNTs and P(BA-co-MMA) copolymer decorated HNTs. The tensile property of HNT-g-P(BA-co-MMA) copolymers tested by monotonic tensile and cyclic tensile processing exhibit desired mechanical properties of TPEs.2.Activators regenerated by electron transfer for atom transfer radical polymerization (ARGET ATRP) was performed to synthesize hybrid materials with multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) grafted by in situ polymerized isoprene (PI, analogue of natural rubber). A series of MWCNT-graft-polyisoprene (MWCNT-g-PI) was prepared via this robust grafting strategy, and the successful grafting was confirmed by FT-IR,1H NMR and TGA measurements. TGA curves shows that MWCNT-g-PI has sufficient thermal stability. The increases of glass transition temperature for MWCNT-g-PI as compared with neat PI were characterized by DSC. TEM was used to observe the morphologies of MWCNT-g-PI. MWCNT-g-PI shows much better dispersibility in various organic solvents than pristine MWCNTs. Water contact angle measurement indicates that the hydrophobicity of MWCNT-g-PI decreases with increasing chain length of the grafted PI.
