The utilization of the secondary fibers is improved greatly as the shortage of the papermaking raw materials and the increasing of the cost, but the recycle of the secondary fibers is bound to cause a drop in the quality of paper. It can improve the property of the paper that to add amount of reinforcing agent into the system of paper manufacture. Cellulose is the most abundant natural resources in the world, and it is environment friendly and can renewable, so it is considered the idealest material that can replace the traditional resources such as the coal, oil and natural gas. Because of the special crystal structure of the hydrogen bond between intramolecular and intermolecular of cellulose, it is difficult to use directly. The modification of cellulose by the method of the graft polymerization not only can reserve the excellent properties of cellulose, but also can give cellulose the unique performance, so that it can extend the application range of cellulose.Firstly, this paper discussed the effect of different pretreatment on dissolving property of cellulose and found that the method of heat DMAc was the best pretreatment way by analyzing the chang of state of aggregation of cellulose and its dissolution property after dissolving in the LiCl/DMAc system. Then, in the stable homogeneous solvent system of LiCl/DMAc system, the cellulose-based macro-intitator(Cell-BiB) was synthetized, with that, the Cell-BiB was characterized by a series of detection in order to ensure that the Cell-BiB was content the standard of the following work. As the detection result, the reaction activity was C6-OH>>C3-OH>C2-OH when the acylation between the cellulose and BiBBr. Finally, the water-soluble cationic polymer was prepared using the polymerization method of ARGET ATRP and Its potentiation to the pulp was studied along with all the others. The Cell-g-DMC-AM was obtained by grafting the monomer of DMC and AM to the Cell-BiB which was dissolved in DMF in advance in the presence of the Sn(EH)2 as the reductant, the CuBr2 as the catalyst and the PMDETA as the liqand. The results of the FT-IR,1H NMR and the analysis showed that the polymer of Cell-g-DMC-AM was composed successfully. The best synthetic of Cell-g-DMC-AM was that the molar ratio of DMC and AM of 100:100 with CuBr2 and Sn(EH)2 of 1:50, the reaction time of 24 h, the reaction temperature of 60℃ through contrasting with different molar ratio of DMC and AM, CuBr2 and Sn(EH)2, the reaction time and temperature. The following work was to study the potentiation of Cell-g-DMC-AM to the pulp and the effect of application conditions was investigated such as the intrinsic viscosity of Cell-g-DMC-AM, the reaction time and so on. The results showed that the addition of Cell-g-DMC-AM can improve the physical properties of paper obviously. It can also be found that the filler retention of paper was a certain degree improved with the presence of Cell-g-DMC-AM through the determination of the ash content of paper.
