The Study On Synthesis And Properties Of Two-component No-bake Alkyd Resin Binder For Foundry

There are many kinds of casting binders. Resently, resin binders are widely used such as furan resin, phenolic resin, urethane resin, etc. Alkyd resin can also be used as a binder, but the higher price of solvents and raw materials used in producing alkyd resins leads to increased production costs, so alkyd resins are mainly used for coatings,which are rarely used for binders.This article has described the synthesis of castor oil alkyd resin binders which use castor oil and high boiling aromatic as raw material and solvent, separately. The test of various indicators, such as strength, time, release time has been compared with imported resin of a foundry in Ningxia, obtained binders in similar performance with imported resins. However, due to the higher price of castor oil, the larger hydrocarbon ratio of high-boiling aromatics and smoke more, the experiment will use mixed oil whose price is a half of castor oil and biodiesel instead of castor oil and high-boiling aromatics as raw materials and solvents, and ultimately synthesize a new alkyd resin binder, whose various indicators will also conform to the requirement of casting binders.The main results of the experiment are as follows:(1) From the influence of different alcoholysis reaction temperatures for color, status, methanol tolerance, time and intensity of synthetic resins, we determine alcoholysis reaction temperatures of the castor oil alkyd resins and mixed oil alkyd resins are230℃.(2) From the influence of different esterification reaction time and temperature for color, status, methanol tolerance, time and intensity of synthetic resins, we can determine esterification reaction temperatures of the castor oil alkyd resins and mixed oil alkyd resins are195℃.(3) By comparing the smoke amount of high-boiling aromatics and biodiesels, we can obtain the result that the smoke amount of biodiesels is less than high-boiling aromatics.(4) Through testing the index of resins, we can derive the formula of castor oil alkyd resin binder and mixed oil alkyd resin binder.
