A Study In The Useless Design Of Used Jeans

"Useless design" is a new design concept, which begins with the exhibition themed by"Utterubbish"(a pile of garbage). Its content is environmental protection, which shows theutilization of useless things, the use of creative ideas to add value to wastes and make thembecome a salable commodity once again. In the textile and clothing sector, with theaccelerated pace of life and popularity, more and more clothing is eliminated and becomeswastes, but the strengths of resources and style of used cowboy clothing match well with the"useless design" concept. The "useless" design concept of used jeans follows the developmentof times, and it s in line with the sustainable development and the environmental protectionconcept of low carbon. This concept involves resources, environment, humanities, traditions,political and other fields, advocates that it s not only the designer s task, but also eachperson s responsibility that turning wastes into treasure."Useless design" is now stuck in the stage of understanding of the concept, andtheoretical research is still in the blank stage. The author contacted with the founder of the"useless design" concept Chen Junda, and exchanged views. From the "useless design"concept, the useless design products are collected and collate. The basic characteristics andthe basic concept are summed up, and the theory is analyzed through the examples.Jeans have been popular for hundred years during the fashion changes. This paper tracesthe Jeans historical and sources of jeans and summarizes its special roots of retro stylethrough literature searches. The current situation of generation and development of jeans isanalyzed on the basis of survey and search, the characteristics of used jeans are summarized.Based on the resources and style of used jeans, depth study of used jeans "useless" design ismade. The acceptance on the useless design of consumers are collected through social surveyand questionnaire. Then the trends and direction of industrial development of used jeans areanalyzed and summarized. The concept structure of useless design of used jeans consistsdesign basics, design method, implementation, and industrial prospect and so on. The use of"useless design" concept is demonstrated in application examples. Theoretical framework of"Useless design" concept and realization inquiry of used denim clothing "useless design" arethe key parts of this article.At last, through the survey of existing designs used "useless design" concept in thetextile and clothing sector, and from the resources and style base of used jeans, the applicationdirection of "useless design" in modern fashion design is analyzed and summarized. Fromalternative methods of used jeans useless design as the starting point, combined withmodern art style and art forms, design practices are carried out from two aspects of theemotional sustainable and creative expression to achieve the purpose that apply research intopractice.
