Because of its excellent corrosion resistance and adhesion properties, epoxy resincoating is widely used in aspects of food packaging material, manufacturing industrialanti-corrosion coatings, powder coatings and electrophoretic coating, etc. In addition topowder coating, in order to reducing the content of VOC, preparing environmental friendlywaterborne epoxy coatings is the development direction of epoxy resin coating. In thispaper waterborne epoxy resin emulsion had been prepared, both the curing agent and fillerwere made reasonable modified to improve their compatibility with the epoxy resin. At last,the performances of the coating were studied by different test methods.In this paper, DEA as modifier, the waterborne epoxy resin emulsion was prepared bychemical modification. And the dosage of modifier and the dropping speed, reactiontemperature which have important effect on the resin emulsion of particle size and stabilityand so on were studied by single factor variable method, The results showed that the epoxyresin emulsion has small particle size and the best comprehensive properties at the situationas followed: n(epoxy group): n(DEA)=4:3, reaction temperature was70-80℃, droppingspeed was3-4drops of/min. And the same time, effect of epoxy amount and reactiontemperature on particle size and stability of modified curing agent had been researched.The results showed that curing agent has a fine performance at n(epoxy group):n(DETA)=1:1, reaction temperature was about80℃.Na-MMT was modified into organic MMT by way of ion-exchange method in thepaper, then by means of X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetry,scanning electron microscopy to character the organic MMT, the results showed that thecations of MMT interlamination had been changed by long chain alkyl quaternaryammonium salts, and the trimethyloctadecylammonium bromide was the best modifier forMMT. The contact angle experiments results showed that modified MMT had changedfrom hydrophilicity to hydrophobicity. The spacing of MMT and hydrophobicity increasingcan create a good condition for the high polymer into the MMT interlamination.With polymer solution intercalation method, organic MMT in the form of packingmaterial was added into the waterborne epoxy resin to prepare waterborne epoxyresin/MMT nanocomposites. Using orthogonal experimental method, tensile strength asinfluencing factor, the major affect on the properties of the composite materials were studied, the results showed that nanocomposites had the best tensile properties at situationof pH=7, reaction temperature was80℃, reaction time was2h, and the packing materialwas MMT modified by trimethyloctadecylammonium bromide. The quality of organicMMT effect on nanocomposite to the corrosion resistance and mechanical property wasstudied by single factor variable method, the results showed that the nanocomposite had thebest performance when adding the MMT quality is about6%.
