The traditional epoxy resin coating diluent is organic solvent.Waterborne epoxy paintwith water as a solvent, lower organic content or even close to zero,little smell,environmental protection,easy construction and easy to clean the construction tools. Theadvantages of waterborne epoxy coatings make the water-based paint to occupy a majorposition in the coatings industry in the future.Waterborne epoxy coatings are mainly composed of waterborne epoxy curing agentand epoxy resin. The degree of the curing reaction between waterborne epoxy curing agentand epoxy resin directly affects the performance of waterborne epoxy coating, the activityof curing agent directly affects crosslinking reaction with waterborne epoxy curing agentand epoxy resin, so, synthesis of waterborne epoxy curing agent is the focus of waterborneepoxy coatings.In this paper, using epoxy resin E-44and E-51modified triethylenetetramine,makeepoxy resin embedded in triethylenetetramine molecule, and then through end-capping ofbutyl glycidylether, acetic acid salt formation, which obtained type of E-44andE-51.Through the test of curing agent film performance, optimum process parameters ofsynthesis waterborne epoxy curing agent are determined,In the85℃,TETA: EPON=3.0:1(molar ratio) of the reaction for4hours,adding butyl glycidylether of the reaction for2hours at60℃,keeping this reaction temperature, acetic acid salt formation. By infraredspectroscopy, SEM test, the test of the curing agent emulsion particle size and filmproperties test, it is proved that the type of E-44waterborne epoxy curing agent with goodperformance, Film’s surface drying time is4h, and actual time is16h, film hardness is2H,emulsion particle size is390nm.Due to self-made E-44type waterborne epoxy curing agent film drying time is stilllong, the paper explores adding rare earth elements, trying to speed up the paint dryingspeed and shorten the drying time. This paper study of influence of adding modified nanocerium oxide particle to the synthesis process of E-44type waterborne epoxy curing agentto the film drying time. The nano cerium dioxide compound is insoluble in water, and easyto agglomerate, in order to overcome these two disadvantages, we should to modified nanocerium oxide. Using concentration of60g/L sodium dodecyl sulfate modifiied in this article.It is provided that modifier successfully wrapped outside of the cerium oxide nanoparticles, without changing the crystal structure of the nano-ceria.The mass fraction of0.5%modified nano-ceria add to triethylenetetramine andstirring, followed by the dropwise addition of epoxy resin solution, finally, end-cappingand acetic acid salt formation, which obtained waterborne epoxy curing agent withmodified nano-ceria. Self-made waterborne epoxy curing agent E-44type and withmodified nano-ceria type are coated with epoxy and tested the film properties, it is showedthat the film cured with modified nano-ceria type is excellent than E-444type, film’ssurface drying time is2.5h, and actual time is5h, film gloss is98, film hardness is3H.
