Halogen-free flame retardant resin are widely used in wire industry, cableindustry, plastic packaging industry and other industries because of its excellentperformances and clean combustion process. Because traditional halogen free flameretardant resin added a lot of polarity of flame retardants and influences thecompatibility between flame retardant and resin matrix, mechanical strength andflame retardant performance degradation. This article from the perspective ofimproving compatibility of flame retardant and resin matrix, using polar monomeron grafting modified resin matrix, with N-phenyl maleic imide (N-PMI) as graftingmonomer, DCP as initiator, synthesizes PPO-g-N-PMI and SEBS-g-N-PMI. Studiedthe graft product rate, thermal properties and mechanical properties, in the furthertwo grafting content as the resin matrix, with resorcinol double (diphenyl phosphate)(RDP) as flame retardant, explores the grafting content effect on the properties ofthe halogen-free flame retardant resin, preparation of the excellent mechanicalproperties and flame retardant properties of halogen-free flame retardant resins.First, the grafting experiments are carried out in different reaction temperatureswhich are predesigned. PPO-g-N-PMI and SEBS-g-N-PMI are characterized byinfrared spectroscopy, demonstrating that N-PMI is successfully grafted onto SEBSand PPO. The graft position of N-PMI to PPO was characterized by1H NMRtechnology, DSC technology tested the thermal properties of PPO-g-N-PMI. And bychanging the temperature and the reaction time, explore the N-PMI graft PPOoptimal grafting time is8min, the optimum reaction temperature is260℃, N-PMIgrafted SEBS optimum reaction time for4min, the optimum reaction temperature is180℃. The grafting degree and the melt flow rate ratio of grafted copolymers whichare prepared in different reaction temperatures are tested. And white oil,antioxidant1010was studied in PPO and SEBS-g-N-PMI grafting rate.Second respectively change the amount of DCP and N-PMI, verified byinfrared spectra under the condition of the ratio of the N-PMI can be grafted ontothe PPO and SEBS, explores the rule of PPO-g-N-PMI and SEBS-g-N-PMI graftingrate. Through graft monomer N-PMI under different dosage of the initiator DCP andPPO-g-N-PMI, SEBS-g-N-PMI and the mechanical properties and grafting rate,known for PPO-g-N-PMI and SEBS-g-N-PMI grafting reaction formula of thehighest rate of PPO:N-PMI: volume=100:3:4, maximum grafted rate was1.91%.For SEBS:N-PMI:DCP=100:3:8, and the ratio of maximum under the condition ofgrafted rate was3.23% Finally using PPO-g-N-PMI and SEBS-g-N-PMI as a resin matrix, RDP as aflame retardant, white oil as toughening agent, halogen-free flame-retardant resinwere prepared according to a certain ratio. The surface morphology of flameretardant resin was observed by SEM, and the results showed compounds has agood compatibility between components after adding PPO-g-N-PMI andSEBS-g-N-PMI. Experiments prove that after adding PPO-g-N-PMI flame retardantcomposites compared with unmodified flame retardant compounds, has highermechanical strength and better flame retardant performance, the tensile strength ofthe modified flame retardant compounds up to20.1MPa, the elongation at breakcan be more than200%. Completely reach and transcend the industry standardrequirements. Adding SEBS-g-N-PMI can improve the mechanical properties offlame retardant compounds, but will reduce the elongation at break.
