At present, the sustainable development of our country faces with the resources and environmental problems. How to realize the sustainable development has become an urgent problem. Sustainable development should be in a particular supply limit of ecological carrying capacity. Therefore, It is the important theory and practice significance to study the supply situation, spatial pattern and the change trend of ecological carrying capacity and to establish the development strategy to ensure the healthy development of the human society. This paper quantitatively calculated and analysed the spatial pattern of the ecological carrying capacity of Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone from the map, county, city three levels of different spatial scales in1990,2000,2005-2010based on the basic theory and method of ecological footprint and using RS and GIS technology. The results show that:(1) The per capita ecological carrying capacity in2010of Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone was0.5560gha/cap. Wherein, the per capita ecological carrying capacity of Nanning City, Beihai City, Qinzhou City and Fangchenggang city were:0.5875gha/cap,0.4799gha/cap,0.4591gha/cap,0.8666gha/cap.(2) The area of different land using types of Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone are fluctuation. During20years from1990to2010year the overall trend is:farm land area increased by97.28square kilometers, forest land area decreased by527.65square kilometers, grassland area increased by197.36square kilometers, the water area increased by6.30square kilometers, the construction land area increased by336.99square kilometers.(3) The per capita ecological carrying capacity of the Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone was0.7267gha/cap in1990and was reduced to0.5560gha/cap by2010. The per capita ecological carrying capacity reduced0.1707gha/cap during20years. From1990to2010, the per capita ecological carrying capacity of Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone is relatively stable. The proportion of different land use types provide to per capita ecological carrying capacity from large to small is farm land, forest land, construction land, water, grassland. Among them, the change range of the proportion of farm land, forest land, construction land, water and grassland were55.54%-57.56%,34.19%-36.91%,6.44%-7.70%,0.30%-0.33%and0.55%-0.58%.(4) The spatial distribution of ecological carrying capacity supply of Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone was very uneven. The distribution pattern showed the consistent to the zonal distribution and local distribution. It was divided by the two mountain Darning Mountain and one hundred thousand mountains and on both sides of the two mountains the ecological capacity was higher. In every city, the supply of ecological carrying capacity is not evenly distributed. Wherein, the ecological carrying capacity of following part was higher and other area is lower:the southern and central Nanning City, the south of Beihai City, the southwest of Qinzhou City, the southeastern of Fangchenggang City.(5) The ecological carrying capacity of Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone maintained relatively stable. At the same time, the transfer of ecological carrying capacity of all kinds land use type was more frequent and the transfer direction and trend were different. The transfer of the urban of Nanning City and coastal areas were larger.
