Polyamides6(PA6) and Ethylene-propylene terpolymer (EPT) polarity varied widely,need solve the key questions of EPT dispersion in the PA6matrix and the interfacecompatibility. In this paper, through the use of itaconic acid (ITA)、maleic anhydride (MAH)graft elastomers for PA6/EPT blends compatibility agents, in order to EPT can make a bettertoughening PA6.In this paper, Solution-grafting techniques, can be prepared by reactive compatibilizerEPT-g-ITA, EPT-g-MAH. Through infrared spectroscopy study of the structure, ITA andMAH, has been successfully grafted to the main chain EPT macromolecules. Through the useof non-aqueous titration study of the grafting rate of graft (GR) and the Gel content (GC), inthe solution grafting method, found that when the reaction temperature110℃, the reactiontime is3.5h, EPT: ITA: BPO=100:20:4, grafting rate reached3.16%, gel content is8.8%;EPT: MAH: BPO=100:8:0.64, grafting rate reached3.58%, gel content is6.0%.PA6/EPT were prepared through the use of twin-screw extruders, through Molauexperiments research PA6/EPT blends shows that, graft copolymer add the PA6/EPTenhance two phase compatibility of PA6/EPT blends.Through the HAAKE PolyLab, meltflow rate meter and electronic universal testing machine to blend torque, MFR andmechanical properties research shows that when EPT-g-ITA/PA6=15%, blends appearedbrittle toughness transition phenomenon, when PA6: EPT: EPT-g-MAH=60:31:9, thenotched impact strength of blends reached131.5kJ/m2, is20times for pure PA6. Study theblends the crystallization through the (X-Ray Diffraction) XRD, the results showed that, incertain range EPT can induce PA6nucleation crystallization, more than this range will hindermatrix crystallization. Using thermogravimetric analyzer (TG) to study the influence of heatresistance of blends on different graft copolymer, the results show that, add the graftcopolymer is helpful to improve the decomposition temperature of blends, and the trend ofheat resistance was PA6/EPT/EPT-g-MAH> PA6/EPT/EPT-g-ITA> PA6/EPT> PA6.Through the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) study Melting behavior of blends showsthat the change of the content of EPT to blend have certain effect on a crystal, αcrystal areahave change little for graft copolymer content change on blends. Study the impact section、low temperature brittle failure section、 etching brittle failure section of the blends through scanning electron microscope(SEM), through observe the morphology of blend section, studythe compatibilization of the graft copolymer to blends, research shows that, in the EPTcontent up to70%after, blends found phase inversion phenomenon, EPT size in blendincreased with graft copolymer content decreased, and the blending process generatedEPT-g-PA6graft copolymer.Use DSC to study the noncrystalline isothermal kinetics of PA6and PA6/EPT blends,found that the avrami equation can describe PA6/EPT blend of the initial crystallizationprocess, straight migration of S shape curve mainly due to the second stage spherulites mutualtouch results, for PA6is concerned, its crystal in the three dimensiona way growth, and in PA6/EPT system with low dimensional way growth, join EPT can induced matrix crystallization,shorten crystallization time. Ozawa methods do not very good description PA6/EPT systemnon-isothermal crystallization process and MO equation can get a good linear relationship,from which we can see MO type equation is suitable for PA6and blends to deal with theproblem of noncrystalline.
