On O’connor’s "Dual Crisis" Theory And Its Enlightenment On The Construction Of Ecological Vivilization

Faced with increasingly serious ecological environment, human society has beenpushed into an unprecedented difficult position, and this situation presents a great challengeto Marxism. As an American sociologist, James Arthur O’Connor put forward EcologicalMarxism, which provides a new perspective for us to consider global ecological crisis andcoordinate man-nature relationship. Ecological Marxism is worth researching since it is ofenlightening significance in helping us to deal with man-nature relationship, to establish,implement and practice Scientific Outlook on Development, to build a harmonious socialistsociety, and to construct ecological civilization.This paper, based upon previous literature, by combining analysis and synthesis,combining induction and deduction, makes a detailed research on O’Connor’s “Dual Crisis”theory, including its origin, content, and essence, and then gives an objective evaluationwith viewpoints of materialistic dialectics. By connecting Crisis theory and China’secological civilization construction, this paper discusses the Dual Crisis theory and itscontemporary value.This paper is divided into four parts:The first part is an introduction, mainly introduces the background and significance,research status at home and abroad methods, writing and thinking.The second part of the paper is O’Connor put forward "double crisis" theory of socialhistorical background and the origin of the thought, points out Marx, Engels and the pointof view of nature is the primary theoretical basis.The third part of the paper is the theoretical analysis about O’Connor "dual crisis"theory. First introduced the "double crisis" theory: O’Connor argued that capitalism, thereexist two kinds of contradictions and the two kind of crisis, the first class contradiction isthe contradiction between capitalist contradictions theory proposed by Marx is theproductive forces and production relations, this kind of contradiction because of inadequateconsumption will lead to capital surplus production and economic crisis, second kinds ofcontradictions are his theory of Capitalism: capitalism and improved productivity andrelations of production and the production conditions, this kind of contradiction and theformation of the economic crisis and ecological crisis due to inadequate production.Secondly, the criticism of the ecological system of capitalist globalization. O’Connorthought that the capitalist system is the direct cause of ecological crisis, expanding capital accumulation, joint development imbalance, unreasonable application of technology is theimportant cause of ecological crisis. Finally, in the future to solve the crisis, O’Connor putforward the combination of ecology and socialism, take an ecological socialism is differentfrom the traditional socialist road.The fourth part of the paper is its dual crisis O’Connor theory on the construction ofecological civilization, only change the way of thinking, strengthen ecological civilizationsystem construction, strengthen the socialist construction of ecological culture, payattention to production areas, construction of a new way of life, ecological and harmoniousbeauty of China can achieve.
