Gear Transmission is one of the important Transmission modes in machinery field, which has the characteristics of high accuracy, large load and good stability. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct further research on gear and its’cutters processing.Hob application is the most widely used gear processing on cutting tools. As the hob structure is complicated, if adopt the traditional design models, not only the efficiency is low, but also easy to cause errors. During the test stage of hob, if the actual manufactured hob is used to conduct processing experiment, it will waste a lot of materials, financial and human resources.With respect to the above problems, this research adopted Visual Basic6.0as the second development tool for AutoCAD2004and completed parametric modeling of gear hob. It has greatly improved hob design efficiency. The users only need to input parameters into parameter interface, then the system can automatically generate hob’s3D model. The research has also developed a simulation system for gear processing, and even analyzed the influencing factors on simulation quality. The results indicate that the choice of circumferential feeding has great influence on simulation quality. Meanwhile, the research verified its feasibility, and the verification result is ideal. If the simulation system can be used to conduct virtual processing experiment on designed hob, numerous resources will be saved.Besides, by analysis of the gear processed by simulation system, it’s found out that, the stress on root area of gear has related with the curvature of transition curve, while the curvature of transition curve has direct connection with the fillet radius of hob’s top blade. With regard to this situation, the research did optimized analysis on hob’s top blade, and also conducted optimized verification and interference detection on the gear processed by the simulation system. It turns out that, optimization effect is rather good without emerging any interference, which has played an important role in improving the life span of gear.The main content of this paper includes the following three parts:1) Reviewing some literatures about gear hob to understand its working principle,design methods, and the relationship between various parameters. Take Visual Basic6.0as the second development tool for AutoCAD2004and complete parametric modeling of gear hob.2)Based on parametric modeling of gear hob, develop a simulation system for gear processing.Study on the influencing factors of quality of hob machining simulative system, determine the appropriate amount of feed. Then compare the processed gear with standard gear to make sure whether the simulation system is good.3)By means of the simulation system and finite element analysis software,stu-dy the relationship between the top edge radius of hob fillet and the maximum bending stress on the processed gear tooth roott.On this basis, optimize the top edge radius of hob fillet,and then test optimization results.Use Pro/E for optimal processing gear motion simulation to test whether the two meshing gears in motion will be interfere.
