The geographical position of Cao Yang tai oil field is in the middle part of Yi Shan slope, which also belongs to Ordos Basin, the main hydrocarbon layers of this oil field are yanchang No.8layer and yanchang No.9layer. The nature power comes from underground was used in the exploration of this oil field in the first one year, however, there was a significantly reductio n of the production power during the producing test. Therefore, water injection process is need ed to increase the producing energy in this exploration, make the reduction of production powe r to be slow, and enhance oil recovery. Firstly, this paper is going to analyze the geologic featu re of the hydrocarbon layer in this oil field. The main sedimentation type of No.8and No.9la yer is delta front deposition. The rock type of No.8layer is arkose, which contains tuffaceous a nd fine grained sands, moreover, the rock type of No.9layer is arkose with middle grained san ds. The main characteristics of those two hydrocarbon layers are lower porosity and lower pen etrability. Furthermore, this paper is going to analyze the testing characteristics for oil explorat ion of Cao Yang oil field and make a decision that using No.8and No.9layers as a set in the ex ploration. In additionally, reservoir engineering argument has been processed for the well spac ing density, well spacing, waterflood pattern and waterflood pressure. As a result, the foundati on of the arrangement of waterflood well net is found out, which is that the direction of wells p itch and wel spacing should along the fissures. According to the characteristics of No.8and No.9layers, it is suggested that the shape of diamond back nine is suitable for the waterflood well net. Due to the natural energy of reservoir is poor, synchronized or advanced waterflood shou Id be utilized to improve the oil recovery. Finally, based on the best condition of waterflood, a new prediction of oil capacity is74thousand ton, cumulative oil recovery is991thousand ton, cumulative volume of water injection is2.3313million, and the water ratio at the end of explo ration is82.6percent.
