Since much of the shallow sea and intertidal zone has been occupied by the marine engineering in Luoyuan Bay, the self-purification capacity of seawater and hydrological dynamics were affected. During the construction of marine engineering, the suspended solids, petroleum hydrocarbons and other pollutants increased in local sea area, after construction, the tidal prism of the whole bay was reduced, with the variations of tidal current flow rate and direction in part sea areas. After two decades development of aquaculture in Luoyuan Bay, the carrying capacity has become supersaturated. The eutrophication of the bay was serious and the inorganic nitrogen and orthophosphate content in many sampling stations were beneath the level IV of Seawater Quality Standard of China (GB3097-1997), which is on rise year by year.Beginning in2004, several serious diseases outbreaks in Luoyuan Bay, such as Diseases of Cryptocaryon irritans, in marine fish, which happens during spring, summer and fall,’discomfort to high temperature’ in abalone during September and October, and’Offal Sarcoidosis’ in marine fish, whose hazards become more and more serious in recent years. These diseases severely impact the development of aquaculture in Luoyuan Bay. The prevalence and damage of these diseases are following the development of marine engineering and aquaculture. The further industrial development around Luoyuan Bay will lead to squeeze the development space of aquaculture in the bay. In this situation, it is necessary to conduct a scientific re-planning for the aquiculture in the bay, as well as appropriate guidance and remediation of the existing aquaculture.
