To research the interaction of X-ray laser at46.9nm with solid target, serving theinteraction of X-ray laser with cluster, the experiments of X-ray laser ablation on Si andCu target using a cylinder mirror and a toroidal mirror at a glancing incidence areoperated. The high reflectivity of laser is guaranteed because of the glancing incidencewhich is suitable for the laser with low energy in a ablation experiment. In the part oftheory, the focal distance of both sagittal and meridian plane is deduced. The paper alsoreport the simulation of the focal beam path with the cylinder mirror and toroidal mirrorto guarantee the beam path parameters like glancing angle, focal distance, the locationof the target etc using ZEMAX software. Also the focal spot at different locations issimulated and analysed to guide the ablation experiment operation and analyise ofablation patterns. The theoretical calculation and ZEMAX software simulation areproved by ablation results.To analyse the focal effect using a cylinder mirror with different target,experiments of interaction of laser with Si and Cu target using the cylinder mirror areoperated. In the process of ablating Si target, ablation patterns of different targetlocation and different pulses of effecting laser are detected and analysed bySEM(scanning electron microscope). Using the beam path parameters of ablationexperiment with Si target, Cu target is ablated and the ablation patterns are also scannedand analysed by SEM. Difference of ablation result between Si target and Cu target areresearched and damage mechanics is deduced to be the high photon energy using thescanning result with SEM.In the ablation experiment with Si target and Cu target using a toroidal mirro, thefocal spot is determined using a YAG:Ce scintillator to catch the focal spot. Ablationexperiments of Si target at different location being ablated by different pulses of laserare operated. AFM(atomic force microscope) and SEM are used to scan the ablated areaand analyse the damage mechanics. In the process of ablation experiment with Cu target,research of influnence of different pulses of laser on ablation results is studied usingSEM. The ablation process with both thermal effect and high photon energy is foundand researched for the first time in the relective research area. Because of the differentablation process between the cylinder mirror and toroidal mirror, the ascendancy offocusing X-ray laser at46.9nm by a toroidal mirror is proved.
