With the rapid development of society, people’s survival geographical space has beenchanging continuously. Spatial data updating has mainly focused on city habitation which is one ofthe most active features in the space targets. Therefore areal habitations, with the characteristics ofdense distribution, complex shape and irregular outline, havebeen the most challenging andcomplex part in the process of spatial data matching.After analyzing the existing matching methodsof area features comprehensively, a newmatching method of areal habitations in large-scale maps is put forward, which uses technique ofreducing-dimension. The main works and innovations are as follows:(1) It puts forward a new matching method for area blocks based on dimension technique. Afterthe approach termed as“dimension decrease oriented matching method”, the area blocks weretransformed to sketch lines that can reflect their the main morphological characteristics of theoutline. On one hand, the matching calculation amounts and complex were reduced greatly,and onthe other hand, line features matching algorithms were bringing along, which expanding the areafeatures matching method effectively.(2) The extraction and simplification method of area blocks’ sketch lines are studied. Itanalyses the common extraction algorithms of area features’ sketch lines. The sketch linesextraction algorithms of city habitation was unified according to the area blocks’ geometricalcharacteristics; A sketch line simplification algorithm based on geometrical characteristic was putforward after analyzing the common line simplification algorithm synthetically.(3) It builds the habitation matching method based on the sketch lines. We propose threehabitation matching methods based on buffer analysis of sketch lines, difference rate betweenintegral area and Fourier transformation of sketch lines. Three methods have been compared andproved their scientificity and feasibility by doing experiments.(4) A matching method of habitation based on the constraint sketch line net is put forward.Thediscrete distribution of areal habitations gives trouble to the represent ofstructure and relationship.As compensation parts of the areal habitations, city blank areas have the characteristic of thecontinuous distribution, which can reflect the relationships of geometry and position in habitationswell. Therefore, a matching method of habitation based on the restraint sketch line net is putforward. The sketch lines of city blank areas can be extracted with the constraints of city roadnetwork.The matching of areal habitations can be realized by matching the constraint sketch linenet. (5) A matching experiment system based on reducing-dimension is realized. The theory and thescientificity are proved by taking the multi-source city habitationdatasets of large scale map asexperimental subjects.
