City land cover change analysis is an important part of city development and vicissitude,which occupies an important position in the rational use of land, environmental protection,and the research of city development. Remote sensing can achieve the land cover informationaccurately, dynamically in real time, and quickly, it also can analysis and dispose data, whichis not only the principle method of surveying the change of land cover, but can providereliable basis for the land and resources administration. City land cover classification is acourse that using technical means to extract land cover information, which is used widely.Compared with medium-resolution and low-resolution image, high-resolution remote sensingimage is more distinct, possesses more spatial data information and texture information. Sothe high-resolution remote sensing image is more and more widely applied in the study of cityland cover analysis. In addition, Object-based method is the research hotspots in remotesensing image classification, the technology of which is progressive. So it can avoid the “saltand pepper” phenomenon in previous classification process effectively. This method, appliedto city land cover changes analysis, can get higher accuracy, which also achieve the attentionof all related fields.In this paper, selecting2003resolution of1meter IKONOS remote sensing image and2010resolution of0.5meters WorldView-2remote sensing image of Jiangyin City, usingmulti-scale segmentation of object-based classification method to extract city land coverinformation, we analyzed and studied the land cover change of Jiangyin City. Duringextracting city land cover types, the method named multi-scale segmentation of object-basedclassification was also used to extract construction. When extracting road, construction, andplantation, we usually made use of the geometric characteristic function and texturecharacteristic function of objects after segmentation, which was more precise. In the processof analyzing city land cover change, by single dynamic degree of land cover, land coverconversion matrix, an analysis model about the driving forces of land cover changes, weanalyzed the changes of the number of Jiangyin City land cover structure and spatial structurecharacteristics. By calculating the vegetation cover index, biological abundance index,ecological environment quality value, understanding the course of the study area land coverchanges, these could provide some basis for Jiangyin City development, environmentalprotection and ecological construction. Combining with the statistical data of the study area,we analyzed and checked the coupling degree between the experimental data and the actualstatistical data.From2003to2010, the study area land cover types change significantly, the plow landarea reduced from27%to37%, the buildings area increased from25%to33%. Through the land cover conversion matrix, we analyzed that the main conversion type in the study arealand cover were plow land, buildings and vegetation during the seven years. The plow landarea decreased25.33square kilometers, mainly transformed into buildings and roads. Thebuilding area increased21.35square kilometers, mainly transformed from farmland and bareland. In the study area around the city, agricultural acreage reduced largely while covered areaincreased rapidly, reflecting urbanization process in Jiangyin was frequent, as well as theexpansion of the appropriation of farmland was serious. Vegetation coverage area increased7.45square kilometers, mainly transformed from plow land and buildings, reflecting thatwhen the urbanization was accelerated Jiangyin also attached great importance to theenvironmental protection and city landscaping.Combining social economic statistics in2003and2010of Jiangyin, using spatialanalysis function of the geographic information system, we analyzed and checked the factorsthat affect the land cover changes from the main driving force which affected the Jiangyinland cover change such as population, economy and policy. With the increase of citypopulation, the agricultural acreage reduced steadily while the built-up area expandedconstantly. The policy of returning the grain plots to forestry made the vegetation coveragearea do not decrease, but a small increase. By analysis of Jiangyin land cover change anddriving force, we further studied ecological environment changes in Jiangyin City. We usedvegetation cover index, biological abundance index, and the ecological environment qualityvalue changes in the ecological environment of the three indicators of quantitative evaluationof the study area. Jiangyin City seven years calculated three ecological environment valuedecreased slightly, but not significantly. In recent years, Jiangyin increase of cityinfrastructure and residential construction, take up a lot of land, especially in occupied cityfringe plow land mainly city dwellers, but an active interest in promoting city developmentand the living quality of resident, such as strengthening city greening, advancing the citygreening and city construction at the same time. Meanwhile, the improvement of theecological environment was also gradually increasing. It also provided powerful support andreliable basis for the data analyzed in this experiment.
