Shanghai and surrounding areas belong to Delta of Yangtze River, but the rotiferfauna in this area is little known.260samples from118localities in Shanghai andsurrounding areas were investigated.114species were reported in this study, belonging to2orders,16families,28genera. There are11species are new to China:Brachionus dimidiatus (Bryce,1931), Brachionus havanaensis (Rousselet,1911),Brachionus kostei (Shiel,1983), Lacane bifurca (Bryce,1892), Lecane braziliensis(Segers,1993), Lepadella imbricata (Harring,1914), Lepadella triba (Myers,1934),Lepadella patella similis (Lucks,1912), Synchaeta bicornis (Smith,1904), Trichocercamarina(Daday,1890), Trichocerca obtusidens (Olofsson,1918).Shanghai and surrounding areas are located at the juncture of Palaearctic andOriental regions. The rotifer fauna in Shanghai and surrounding areas mostly arecosmopolitan species, pan-tropical or subtropical Pan species; and few species istropical species or cold water species, which reflecting the different speciescomposition in different seasons. The number of Palaearctic species is higher thanthe Oriental ones. The rotifer fauna distribution is characterized for Palaearctictransition to the Oriental region, higher similarity with Palearctic. The detailed description, drawings and photos under the LM for each speciesare provided to allow future recognition.
