With the development of globalization, the family business plays a vital role in the globaleconomic development, mainly in expanding the size and number of the family business, awider range of operating and to accept the number of the labor force is increasing. The familybusiness has also become academic research hotspot in recent years. At the same time, theinvestigation on social capital has been transferred from the field of sociology to theeconomic and management fields. Therefore, two research focus of social capital and familybusiness combination, mainly to study the impact of social capital on the performance of thefamily business.In this paper, this is a combination of theoretical research and empirical analysis researchmethods. Theoretical part: First, The definition of the concept of research; the second, authorcombine literature research and on-site interviews, design a comprehensive measure of theEnterprise social capital and family business performance scale. Third, further analysis of theimpact of social capital on family business performance mechanism, pointed out that externalsocial capital is a significant impact on the performance of the family business. Empiricalparts: I have made questionnaire survey and field interview with the managers of the familybusiness in Shenyang City, and analyzing the data with software SPSS. Get the result:external social capital has a significant impact on the performance of family businesses, andInternal social capital is weak influence on the performance of the family business. Amongthe external social capital, the horizontal relationships (on behalf of the family business withsuppliers and customer relationships) affect the performance of the family business, while thevertical relationship (on behalf of the family business and government relations) and socialrelations (on behalf of The relationship of the family business and the community banks andother financial institutions) have little effect on the performance of the family business.Combined with the results of the study, this paper put forward some recommendationshow to use the social capital in the process of production and operation of the family business. And I analyze the major contribution and future research directions.
