Research On The Performance Of Architectural Firm Based On AHP And DEA

The construction industry is one of the pillar industries of the national economy in China, which is closely related to the economic development of the country. From the21st century, the construction enterprises are showing a large-scale, high-speed trends in the promotion of the good economic situation in China. In the next50years, China’s urbanization rate will increase to more than76%, which means that China’s construction enterprises will soon usher in a broader market. However, in sharp contrast with the high value, most construction enterprises in China are in low operating efficiency, and there is "big but not strong" status quo. Therefore, the establishment of a comprehensive construction enterprise performance evaluation system is particularly important to enable enterprises to recognize their own shortcomings, improve the management system and increase the operational efficiency.This paper consists of the following six parts:the first part is the introduction, introducing research background, research objectives and theoretical significance, the paper also pointed out that the research content and research methods. The second part outlines the construction business performance theory and introduces the part of the performance evaluation method briefly. The third part mainly elaborates the establishment of the analytic hierarchy process and data envelopment analysis model, and discusses the feasibility and applicability of the AHP and DEA analysis. The fourth part mainly uses the analytic hierarchy process to select input and output indicators of DEA. The fifth part is the empirical research, combining the AHP and DEA and selects20listed construction companies in the construction and engineering industry sector of Shanghai and Shenzhen stock as samples, based on2009-2011annual data of the sample companies, analyzes the company performance from horizontal and vertical two aspects, and eventually gets three most efficient companies which are Sinoma International,Zhongnan Construction and The Third Engineering Group Co.Ltd.of China Railway. Finally, this article analyzes the problems that exist in the companies do not meet the DEA, and provides the direction for improvement.The sixth part is the conclusions and recommendations of the research, summarizing the results and making relevant recommendations.The main innovations of this paper are related below:First, using AHP and DEA analysis in the construction enterprises performance evaluation for the first time to make results more believable. Second, adding the horizontal comparison on the basis of the inter-enterprise vertical comparison of the time dimension in the output analyzing to get more comprehensive evaluation results. Third, adding futher analysis in DEA efficient decision-making unit to make evaluation results more thorough.Through this research, the level of performance of the construction enterprises in China is in reasonable distribution and overall upswing. Besides, in all indicators, the number of employees and profitability need to focus on improvement. In addition, as the main force of China’s construction industry to enter the international market, the level of performance of China Railway Construction, China Railway and China State Construction need to be improved. From the business aspects, the research results help to identify existing problems in the course of business, such as redundancy, inefficiency, inappropriate scale, and indicates the right direction. From the macro aspects, helps to guide the direction of investment in the construction industry, and to control the scale of operation of the construction industry, and promote the rational allocation of national resources.
