Regional spatial structure is a jointly studied area for regional economics, economic geography and regional planning. Set at the background of globalization and regionalization, China’s society and economy are experiencing reforms and transformation. Simultaneously, regional spatial structure is encountering reshuffling and optimization, which is pivotal to the regional sustainable development. Chongqing, as the core city in upper Yangtz River and Western China, is playing a leading role in the development of Western China and narrowing the gap between the East and West. Currently there are huge gaps among different regions of Chongqing and the urban-rural duality is also facing great challenges. Chongqing’s spatial structure can no longer fit the ever-changing external environment. Therefore, this study, combining relevant methodology, tries to identify the characteristics of the evolution of Chongqing’s spatial structure. It also analyses internal mutual influence of Chongqing’s spatial structure. Using functional model, this study explores the development direction of spatial structure optimization in Chongqing and finally uncovers the differences and key factors. Based on all the findings, this study initiates concrete optimization methods for the spatial structure in Chongqing. |
