In21st century, development of high-tech requires the steel material for higher and more strict performance, but also greatly promotes the rapid development of the steel industry. The level of iron and steel enterprises in China there is a gap with the USA, Europe and the United States, Japan and other iron and steel enterprises. Especially small and medium-sized steel enterprises, the highlight problems are more obvious, so there is no competitive advantage at all in the steel industry. In this context, the author analyzes the problems of small and medium-sized steel enterprises in China, and evaluates research for its core competitiveness. The purpose is to find the gap between small and medium-sized steel companies and outstanding enterprises of industry. And through the index to show which aspects between the gaps, thus propose concrete feasible method for SMEs to gain competitive advantage.The author provides a theoretical basis to build the core competitiveness evaluation system through core competitiveness on domestic and foreign scholars and domestic and international competitiveness theory. The connotation of the core competitiveness to describe the identity core competitiveness connotation is the view of the corporate culture. Then use the previous studies--the core competitiveness index evaluation system based on AHP to determine the weight of each index using the six principles. In the evaluation of the overall competitiveness, the author uses the research results of a national fund to be evaluated. Finally, analysis A company’s core competitiveness, and propose countermeasures to improve the core competitiveness of enterprises according to the results of the analysis and their own characteristics.
