With social and economic development, the construction industry is experiencinggreat transformation and becoming increasingly competitive. As a result of economicconditions and industry reformation,the traditional construction project management modelhas demonstrated inadequacy in adjusting to the volatile market situation. The application ofsupply chain theory in construction project has turned out to be effective way in improvingconstruction management. And the selection of construction material suppliers and the jointoptimization of inventory are important components of the supply chain theory. This paperfocuses on construction material suppliers selection problem and joint optimization of themulti-stage inventory problem, and study on these two aspects, the main research results areas follows:(1) Summary of research achievements of supplier selection in supply chain andinventory optimization. Based on the supply chain theory and the construction supply chaintheory, this paper gives a systematic introduction of the research achievements of supplierselection and inventory optimization as well as the current situation and problems, paving theway for further research.(2) Research on construction material supplier selection and optimization. Thispaper first builds a comprehensive evaluation system consisting of eight judging criteriathrough literature review and investigation, then constructs a supplier selectiondecision-making method by combining entropy method with multi-objective weighted greytarget decision, and finally takes use of a project instance to verify the validity of the indexsystem and the selection method and to prove that the evaluation method can be applied forreference by the engineering construction practice.(3) Research on the joint optimization of multi-stage inventory of constructionmaterials. The control and optimization of construction project inventory are studied from theperspectives of material suppliers and construction contractors. The paper establish aninventory optimization model of the two-stage supplier chain composed of suppliers and construction contractors by taking into consideration the discontinuity of constructionmaterial demand and material procurement, transportation, warehousing, and consumption.Then, an optimization arithmetic method is designed on the basis of particle swarmoptimization arithmetic. Finally, a project example is illustrated as a testimony to theinventory optimization model and the optimization arithmetic method.
