Convergence Analysis Of Regional Industrial Structure

The phenomenon of industrial structure convergence is a situation of the same or similar industrial structure appears in the process of China’s regional economy development between different provinces or areas or even in the same area but different regions.The problems appear with the phenomenon of industrial structure convergence are repeat construction, market segmentation, unreasonable industrial structure, local protectionism, regional vicious competition, excessive investment, excessive competition and so on.Therefore industrial structure convergence is usually considered to be the obstacal of regional economic development, it is not conducive to the regional economy development, so the phenomenon of industrial structure convergence is harmful.Of course, some scholars put forward different views, consider the phenomenon of industrial structure convergence can lead to a desirable result.This paper argues that one should be more rational to view the constitution of industrial structure in two regions.This paper summarizes the former researches, defines the phenomenon of industrial structure convergence from the neutral angle at first. Then elaborate the causes and the results of industrial structure convergence and the methods to measure it from the four respects which are politics, resources, factors of production and market.This paper first divide31provinces of mainland China (autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government) into four economic plates and eight economic aones. Then measures the industrial structure convergence in our country by computing the correlation coefficient of every regions. Next build the entity fixed effect model based on the panel data from2003to2009and make an empirical analysis on the factors which have influences on the industrial structure convergence of our country. At last test the desirability of industrial structure convergence in our country by the increase ratio of industral gross product.This paper studies the trend of future development of the phenomenon of industrial structure convergence in our country, calculates the advantage industry, potential industry, weak industry and maturity industry in each regions of our country by build the shift-share model, analyzes the trend of future development of the phenomenon of industrial structure convergence in our country by various types of comparison. In the meanwhile, this paper put forward the future research direction from two aspects which are the study of desirability of industrial structure convergence and regional industrial development strategy.
