Since the economic reform and the adoption of opening-up policy, China’seconomic success has attracted worldwide attention. By the end of2010, China’sgeneral domestic production has exceeded Japan, become the second largest economicentity. Outward-oriented economic policy is considered has a close ties with China’ssuccess. The high speed development of economy and broad market space make Chinaan important destination for foreign direct investment(FDI), at the same time, manyinternational famous multinational corporations flood in, start investment andconstruction.In can’t be denied that multinational corporations make contributions to China’seconomic development in the sense that they absorb employment, ascend human capitalquality, improve the competitiveness of local enterprises in China through spillovereffect. But the corporate social responsibility performance of multinational corporationsin China are difficult to meet their global enterprise citizen identity. There are manycorporate social responsibility scandal of multinational corporations in China. Forexample, they take double standard on the product quality, security, health, after-salesservice and so on, despise Chinese customers’ rights and interests. They trample thelegitimate rights and interests of laborers, we can often see the news reports about thesweatshops of multinational corporations. All above phenomenon explain thatmultinational corporations in China doesn’t seem to be as responsible as they are intheir home countries.Based on the above, this research provides in-depth and systematic exploration onthe topic of social responsibility of multinational corporations in China.This paper mainly divided into three parts. The first part includes introduction and the first chapter, mainly introduces the basic concepts and main theories in the field ofcorporate social responsibility. And, according to the particularity of the multinationalcorporations, the first chapter introduces the particularity of the multinationalcorporations’ social responsibility. The first chapter also introduces and analyses theglobalization of the enterprise citizen theory and stakeholder theory to explain whymultinational corporations have to bear corporate social responsibility. At the end of thefirst chapter, I explained the necessity of government’s regulations on the multinationalcorporation social responsibility based on the government functions theory andexternality theory.The second part includes the second chapter and the third chapter. Firstly, Iintroduce the current status of corporate social responsibility which multinationalcorporations beard in China, selective analysis and summarize the reasons ofmultinational corporations’“alienation” phenomenon in China. Secondly, from theperspective of government functions, I explore the governments’ problems on thecorporate social responsibility of multinational corporations in China, include the legalsystem of the corporate social responsibility is not developed enough, means isrelatively single, each department acting on its own and wrong view on the politicalachievements.The third part includes the fourth chapter and the fifth chapter. In order to explorethe reasons why multinational corporations take different standard social responsibilityin China and western countries and find the solutions for our government to promotesocial responsibility of multinational corporations, this part introduce the advancedpractice of western developed countries firstly, then summarize the enlightenments forour country. According to the reasons which influence multinational corporations to takesocial responsibility in China, I put forward exploring policies and proposals at last.
