Research On Facility Planning Of A Company’s New Works

A company is a BS company’s subsidiary company, which is specializes in producing seamless steel pipes. Its products are mainly low scale structural pipes, low grade high-pressured boiler pipes and plain-end casing pipes and so on. With the development of A company and the operation of the in-depth intergration of BS company, A company need to update product structure, and add steel pipe finishing equipments including heat treatment equipments and pipe processing equipments. With the development of Y City’s economy and the performance of municipal planning, A Company’s exiting factory district will be Commercial residential district. It’s impossible to expand and rebuild the factory at the existing site. As many other companies, A Company is facing relocation.The preliminary work of relocation includes site selection (selection of factory address) and facilities design (plan layout design). They belong to the scope of facilities planning and designing, and they are important parts of modern industrial engineering. For a new enterprise, site selection is not only the first step of establishing and managing a company, but also the first step of business development. For a enterprise which is going to relocation and rebuild, when doing facilities planning, it is necessary to consider eliminating backward technology and equipment and carrying out the necessary update and enhancing the level of transformation. That whether facility’s site selection is suitable will be a great influence on the distribution of productive forces, urban construction, business investment, construction speed and business operation status after establishment. Once facility’s location is confirmed and facility’s establishment is finished, they are not easy to be changed. Therefore, when we select facility’s location, sufficient investigation and exploration are needed. We should give full consideration to various factors combined with their own businesses and make prudent decision. If the site selection is not properly. it will result in an unexpected loss to enterprises.This paper starts with A Company’s present situation, then it leads up the problem of relocation and rebuild which A Company faces. Next, the theory of logistics, facilities planning and designing are presented.During the period of site selection, the product and plant area after A Company’s relocation (New works) are determined by using the theory of logistics and facilities planning. The problems of site selection are solved through linear programming and weighted factor analysis. After the location is confirmed, using SLP theory, factory’s overall layout, relationship between the product logistics, production process flow and main equipment are analysed and confirmed. The final completion layout design of A company’s new works is finished.
