Sourcing is the first step of operating a company. The effectiveness ofsourcing activities is essential to the efficiency of company business. Withincreasing global companies set up their plants in China, more and moresourcing centers were established as well. Global sourcing utilized all thecompany resource to reduce the cost of supply chain and improving theefficiency of company operating.This article takes the example of Carlisle Company and introducedcompany situation before2011: The plant purchased products in traditionalsourcing mode and there’s no defined supplier management team. No formalsupplier and product approving process, which led to continuous internal andexternal quality complaints.Based on those facts, the article analyzed supplier composition,commodity, and key problems in supplier chain for root cause. Companyprocedure, supply chain management and partnership development weredefined as main problems. Three steps are defined afterwards for improvingsupplier management strategy: The first step was to re-establish companysourcing and approving process, which will be a reference for futuresourcing and approving activities; the second step was to re-organizesupplier chain in order to increase market share of good suppliers and reduce the quantity of bad supplier; the third step was to set up supplier scorecardand coach supplier for continuous improvement.
