Well-developed distribution channels means that the economic dominance and the right to the allocation of resources. The wholesale and retail sector as an important part of the distribution channels will lead to the rapid increase of the competitiveness of distribution channels. Therefore, the study of urban wholesale and retail industry’s competitiveness is particularly important. Especially from the2008’s financial crisis, the economic recovery of Europe and the United States shows a slow state. China’s economic policy is transferred from export-led to domestic demand-driven. As the growth of consumption, wholesale and retail trade which are closely related to it just around the chance. The development of wholesale and retail industries in a city, is bound to be affected by local political, economic, cultural and other factors. How to enhance the competitiveness of urban wholesale and retail industries, you need to have sufficient knowledge of the composition of industrial competitiveness.In home and abroad there have appeared many of representative literatures on industrial competitiveness. But the literatures are mainly based on manufacturing and analyses from the perspective of the sources of industrial competitiveness. However, due to the different industry characteristics and the different develop stage, we apply the analysis model of manufacturing industry competitiveness to the commerce industry. And found the factors affecting the competitiveness of the urban wholesale and retail industry, and then build a suitable evaluation index system for the wholesale and retail industrial competitiveness. Through the quantitative research methods, we get the capital cities’ wholesale and retail industry competitiveness of every province, and know Chengdu’ economic status in China province’s capital cities and municipalities. Through the horizontal comparison, we identify the main source of competitiveness in Chengdu,and the relative competitive advantage and the relative competitive disadvantage. Then find out targeted measures to enhance the competitiveness of Chengdu’s wholesale and retail industry.The main conclusions of this article:(1) According to the diamond model of six factors, the competitiveness of the wholesale and retail industry is also affected by the six factors of production, market demand, corporate strategy and structure, related and supporting industries, the government’s role and opportunities.(2) According the evaluating index system of industrial competitiveness, the industrial scale, industrial structure, industrial efficiency, industrial contributions, industrial growth, industrial resources, industrial environment which affect the competitiveness of the wholesale and retail industry.(3) According to the empirical analysis of the results obtained, the capital cities of wholesale and retail industry competitiveness in different economic areas shows uneven. Even in different cities of the same economic region, the level of competitiveness of the wholesale and retail industry are also significant differences. In general, the wholesale and retail industrial competitiveness of the municipalities of china to be higher than the capital city of province; the city which have the higher the economic level, generally get the stronger competitiveness. Specific to a city, the absolute and comparative advantages of its industrial competitiveness are different.(4) Specific analysis of Chengdu, the Chengdu as the capital city of Sichuan Province, is currently the strongest among all capital cities in the southwest region. And compare with other cities, there is still room for improvement, such as the scale of the industry and the environment, industrial structure, personnel efficiency.(5)In this article, in order to improve the competitiveness of the wholesale and retail industries,we have to promote the scale of the industry and the environment through the capital management and industrial agglomeration. Advocates to extend the chain business format, and the regional horizontal extension. About staffs efficiency, we advocate the adoption of a proactive talent recruitment system and the joint training between the corporate and university mechanism to optimize the personnel structure of the wholesale, and establish a sound performance evaluation system for internal management personnel and long-term incentive mechanism to retain the industry talents required.In summary, this paper hopes to have a more profound understanding of the competitiveness of the wholesale and retail industries in the urban distribution channels. However, due to the wholesale and retail industry’s changing, factors that affect the competitiveness changes over time change. So in the future study, we need to constantly adjust the evaluation index system, that we can get more and more accurate conclusions. |
