Laos Foreign Trade Structure Analysis And Policy Suggestion

The economy of Laos grows backward, weakly on the industrial base.Since thefounding of the PRC, foreign trade development is lagging behind, not only export issmaller, and successive trade deficit, national economy also develops slowly. Whydoes Laos Foreign Trade develop slowly, and what kind of relations does it has withthe trade structure, how to take measures to deal with?All of these are worth to ponderand research deeply. In this paper, combined with the actual data analysis Laos nearlyten years of foreign trade structure and policy recommendations. First of all,elaborated this article selected topic background and the significance, domestic andindustrial supplies, Lao People’s livelihood depends almost entirely on imports ofsupply, the main export commodities technology and value-added content are low,narrow range of foreign trade market. In the accession to the ASEAN, faced with thenew economic situation, the Lao government is currently taking economicconstruction as the center, to develop new trade policy, the topic in the new domesticand international political and economic situation has important significance. Second,review of the trade structure and growth effect of literature, reviewed the LaosForeign Trade studies. Laos China’s foreign trade were studied, and the mainlyconcentrated in the foreign direct investment in Laos export growth, upgrading of theindustrial structure, technological progress and growth of whole countryman economyinfluence. Third, on the basis of theoretical analysis, review of Laos economy beforeand after the reform of foreign trade policy changes, and search for information,analysis of the recent ten years the Laos foreign import and export volume anddevelopment trend. Fourth, analysis of the Laos import and export trade commoditystructure and market structure. The results show that, in the past ten years, the importand export trade commodity structure did not change greatly. The main trade countriesare still in Thailand, China and Vietnam, foreign trade market in small scope. By fifth,Lall (2000) technical level of technical analysis methods and technical complexityindex, to Laos import and export commodities technical structure and its change trendanalysis. In Laos, the import of goods, basic and primary industrial manufacturedgoods account for a large proportion of manufactured goods, high-tech smallerproportion, therefore, Lao imports mainly to meet domestic needs. Laos export goods,primary products and resource-based products exports accounted for a largerproportion of exports of high technology, the low proportion of manufactured goods, and the change trend is not obvious. From Laos export commodities technicalcomplexity analysis, technical complexity level of3and6of export products in totalexports accounted for the largest proportion, the corresponding processing industryproducts and primary products, the domestic industry develops slowly in laos，andwith simple processing industry mainly, lacks its own strategic pillar industry. In sixth,the foreign trade commodity structure, market structure and technical structure,according to Lao development strategic planning, foreign economic developmentexperience, put forward to the countermeasure proposals to optimize the structure offoreign trade of Laos.
