China’s commercial banks concentrated management in the traditional deposit and loan business for or a long time, and accordingly, the interest income has become the main source of income for China’s commercial banks. The proportion of the bank intermediate business income is generally low. As the development of financial business, intermediate business of the commercial banks rise rapidly, the profit model of China’s banking industry is changing. It has been seen that decline of the interest income accompanied with growth of the intermediary business revenue, and intermediate business income also occupies a pivotal position in total income.This paper analyzed the development of intermediary business of China’s commercial banks, the development status and the reasons for the slowly development, and put forwards measures to develop the intermediary business, so it has important application value. This paper used the method of combining qualitative analysis with quantitative analysis to elaborate the role of intermediary business in the banking business. By collected the data of the listed commercial bank from the annual report which contains large state-owned commercial banks such as ICBC, BOC, CCB, Bank of Communications, Share Commercial Banks such as CMBC, Citic Bank, CMSB, SPDB, SocGen, CEB, HXB, SDB, and the city commercial bank such as Beijing, Nanjing, Ningbo, the research analyzed the intermediate business income of the commercial banks from the total amount and the structure.This paper used the method of combining qualitative and quantitative analysis to elaborate the increasingly important role of intermediary business in the banks. And analyzed the necessity to develop the intermediary business from five aspects including the influence of financial disintermediation, the competitive demand for the commercial banks, the impact of the deposit and lending interest rate reduced, the consequences of Basel Ⅱ, and the detailed bank examination. This paper also analyzed the problems of the intermediary business, such as the less of variety, the unreasonable structure, the ineffective implementation on service charges, the lack of the understanding and measurement of the risk, strategic positioning errors, bank examination-oriented bias, plaque lack of professional personnel, lack of capacity for independent innovation, the limitations of the separate operation, and lack of sound financial markets.Then the author analyzed the macro-and micro-influencing factors in the development of the intermediary business in China, and established indicators system of the impact factors of the intermediary business in the development of China’s commercial banks. On this basis, the author put forward measures to develop intermediary businesses from the perspective of adjust business strategy, expand the operation scale of the commercial banks, improve intermediary business management structure, the reform of assessment methods, strengthening the reserves and construction of human resources, enhance the management capacity of intermediary business, improve internal control and risk measures.
